Is web design dead? Is web design dying?

Well that’s exactly what I’ll be going over in this post.

People are starting to think that web design is dying or is already dead.

WHY?

Because of platforms like Blogspot, WordPress, Wix, and Weebly. These platforms make it easy for you to set up a website on their domain.

However, if people want their own domain and hosting, they can still use platforms like WordPress to do so.

And on top of that, they don’t have to pay for a theme because WordPress gives away so many.

Also, if people are looking for a more customizable theme, they can purchase one for under $100 and even get something called Thrive Architect which adds another layer of depth to the customization.

Because of this, the web design industry has taken a hit. Just take a look at this chart from Google trends:

This chart represents the people searching for “web design” in Google all the way from 2004 – 2018. And as you can see, it’s clearly trending downwards.

Web design isn’t what it used to be.

HOWEVER…

…This does not mean you can’t make money from web design.

In fact, many people are making money from designing websites and it’s their cash cow.

According to the Keywords Everywhere tool, “web design” gets approximately 301,000 searches a month. That’s a lot of people looking for web design. Over a million people are searching for web design a year.

So when people say web design is dead, they clearly don’t have the facts on their side.

Is web design dying?

Web design is trending downwards but there will always be people looking to get their websites made from scratch so there definitely still is a need for web design.
