What to do After You’ve Created a New Website
By Zukais
So you’ve just created your website, now what?
Well there are a few things that you should do right after you’ve created your site.
Before you publish your first blog post, there are a few things you need to do.
In this post, I’ll be going over those few things and telling you exactly how to do them step by step.
Take the date out of your URL
It’s a big mistake keeping the date in your URL.
WHY?
Because it hurts your chances of ranking on Google and getting traffic from it.
If you have an old post, people may think it’s irrelevant and bounce away from the page or not click on it in the first place because they saw the URL.
So how do I take the date out of my URL?
It’s actually very straightforward to do. If you’re using WordPress, simply go to settings and permalinks. Tick the post name option and click save.
And there you have it. This problem won’t bother you again.
Download an SEO plugin
What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization and it’s the act of putting pages on the search engines for search terms.
By doing this, you’ll be getting traffic from search engines like Google and Bing.
So SEO will be a major key in driving traffic to your blog.
To make optimizing your website easier for SEO, you’ll need to download a plugin. This only works if you’re using WordPress.
I would recommend downloading the Yoast SEO plugin.
And from there. Every post and page you create, there will be a little section where it makes sure you’ve met certain criteria.
Make sure you have a good theme
A theme is important to your website. It will dictate how your site will look and act.
For example, some big themes can really slow down your website because it’s loading so many things.
I would recommend getting a clean theme that doesn’t come with all the latest features. In all honesty, no one gives a damn how pretty your site looks.
They just care about the content you’re providing. That’s why I say just get a simple, clean looking theme.
No need to fill your site with a ton of widgets. This will only hurt you.
Do you know who your target audience is?
When creating a website, most people don’t know who they’re creating it for.
Are you creating your site simply because you want to document your life and share it with your family?
In that case, forget about the things I’ve said here because they won’t matter to you.
But for the rest of us, when creating a site, we need to identify our target audience.
When creating a blog you will need to target a niche.
This is going to improve the chances of getting traffic to your blog and actually making it a business.
For example, are you in the acne niche? The relationship niche? Is your target audience people who are into boxing?
Identify your niche and you will have increased your chances of actually being able to make an income from your blog.
Conclusion
So now you know the first things to do after creating your website.
The things I went over in this post are critical and will shape the future of your blog.
